LUC CHAN DUO

Biography

MARIA LUC / 2022

Hailing from opposite ends of the country, pianists Maria Luc (born in Chichester) and Wyn Chan (from Cumbria) met at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester. In 2015, after a year of studying at different institutions—Wyn at the Manchester School of Architecture and Maria at the Royal Academy of Music in London—they both went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, where they graduated with BMus (Hons) first-class and MMus degrees with distinction. They have been successful in their solo endeavours including both winning the RNCM Concerto Competition.

Maria and Wyn are a dynamic duo who have recently been invited to play at the South Downs Summer Music Festival, Festival of Chichester, Regis School of Music Summer Festival, and have regularly played at the Keyboard and Chamber Music Festivals at the RNCM. A highlight has been performing Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in Liverpool Cathedral as part of the LightNight Festival, where they played the work twice in one night. They have also performed Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals with the RNCM Sinfonietta.

Maria and Wyn have had experience performing Holst’s Planets for two pianos with Kathy Stott in 2019 and were also nominated to coach two-piano repertoire with Junior RNCM students, culminating in a performance in March 2020.

They are grateful to have received coaching from Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Helen Krizos, Graham Scott, and Ashley Wass. Maria also enjoys arranging/composing for piano duo. Aside from playing together, they like exploring new places and following a vegan lifestyle.
